Description/Abstract:
An essay based on a lecture given to the the 24th Thomas Hardy Society Festival and Conference, Dorchester, 13th July 2021 on the Egdon Heath Suite of new paintings by Brian Graham. The essay sets the paintings, referencing Hardy's Egdon Heath, into the context of 19th and 20th century painting of Dorset Heathland, bringing the narrative up to date by looking at the related contemporary work of painter Frances Hatch and poet Elisabeth Bletsoe. Graham's exhibition of the paintings was shown at Sladers Yard, West Bay, Dorset in 2019
