Series of 6 (20) photographic prints, black & white, 594mm x 841mm.
Extreme close-ups of lace within vignettes, captions present SEM data and allude to processes of abstraction in the visual culture of science.
Photographic work exploring the poetics of physics within the Scanning Electron Microscope process for dark space imaging. Human vision involves the register of light in the retinal nervous system and brain and the non-optical electron materialization of the Chantilly net in the installation alludes to enhanced human perceptions. The superfine human workings of silk fibers of antique black Chantilly lace into their tonal transparencies and tensions are presented as physical network to evoke the bio-synthesis and suspension of human and insect consciousness in the contemporary ethical planetary context.

The exhibition is located within the new I3S building and marks a collaboration between Institute for Molecular and Cell Biology / Institute for Investigation and Innovation in Health (IBMC/i3S) and Faculty of Arts and Humanities (FLUP), University of Porto.
