Super 16mm film made up of a series of vertical aerials shots of Middle eastern landscapes ranging from the ancient to the contemporary. Shadow Sites I is part of a body of photographic and moving image work by Jananne Al-Ani, The Aesthetics of Disappearance: A Land Without People, which explores the disappearance of the body in the contested and highly charged landscapes of the Middle East. Noski Deville has worked with Jananne Al-Ani as her cinematographer on 4 films between 2009 and 2011. This work explores the disappearance of the body in the real and imagined landscapes of the region. Al-Ani has a longstanding interest in the power of testimony and the documentary tradition.
