- Details
HARVEST MOON is a collaborative project researching bio materials and allied questions of seasonality, natural processes and community gathering in contemporary architecture and design. It focuses on the design and fabrication of a table that advances the application, knowledge, and understanding of biomaterials amongst multiple stakeholders. Framed by east Kent coast’s specific geology, and design’s ecological imperative, the table will explore concepts of harvesting in its design, manufacture, and function. A hands-on research process will lead to a transportable and adaptable table whose form and materiality will display its harvested, ‘more-than-human’ origins, and through a series of Harvest Gatherings, facilitate diverse and marginal communities to gather and celebrate what they value in their environment today. The project will combine interdisciplinary architectural, design, craft and curatorial expertise across UCA, strengthen cross-programme and campus connections, and develop strategic partnerships including with biomaterials specialists Local Works Studio and arts organisation Dover Arts Development (DAD).
