Description/Abstract:

The workshop brought together ICI students, ICI colleagues, and members of the local community. It aimed to be inclusive and diverse, bringing together people from diverse cultures, identities, ethnicities, ages, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

The workshop aimed to develop a dialogue between the artist and the workshop participants concerning Chinese and Italian gender stereotypes, as well as to engage in artistic activities such as collages and drawings. By comparing depictions of Chinese women in Chinese visual culture to representations of Italian women in Italian visual culture, workshop participants commented on their meanings and proposed visual ways to deconstruct them.

Participants selected images of well-known Chinese women, which during the workshop they printed, cut, painted, drew on top of, pasted, and changed however they saw fit. By doing so, the participants gave their deconstructed visual artifacts new meanings and significations.
