Alicia Foster (Surrey Institute of Art and Design, UK, now University for the Creative Arts) presents a survey of the 250-plus women artists, from a period spanning five centuries, who have works housed in the Tate Collection. An opening essay providing an overview of the topic is followed by four chronologically-ordered sections: the beginnings of women artists at the Tate, starting with the 17th century; the Victorians; the 20th century; and women working now. Each section is introduced with a background essay on the period, followed by alphabetically-arranged texts on each of the artists which survey her life, work, exhibition history, and contributions to the artworld, accompanied by a full- color reproduction of her artwork.
At the current time, August 2010 there are 6 copies of this book availalble at the various UCA Campuses.
