Description/Abstract:

The video piece uses the interior space of the 9th floor of the former BBC East Tower. Using an elaborate circular mirror installation, the video presents a kaleidoscopic effect of the space.
While the video captures the interior of the space and the city of London, it also makes the camera, lights and the video crew a symbiotic part of the video piece. Exposing these normally hidden components the video piece expresses the role of the camera and the production set by making it perform itself, merging the two sides of the seen and unseen into one video. The video piece interlaces environment and portraits, enabling the viewer to simultaneously be before, within and even behind the interior space that they are viewing. Klenz enables the viewer to be positioned in a strange intermediary zone of space, eye and camera - a world in which the viewer is able to see inside one’s own looking.
