Description/Abstract:

This essay asks: can the emergence of global 'screen culture' be related to the frequent occurrence of book iconography in contemporary art, this at a time when the book has been declared to be obsolete?

Fine artists working with books currently only feature on the fringes of the discourse in the book arts. This paper argues for the inclusion of such works, because they could enrich the debate both of the future of the book as well as the future of artist's books.
