Description/Abstract: | The exhibition 'Rescue Kite' explored the relationship between play and structure; between what is deemed useful and useless. The exhibition was the result of research into the work of Joseph Beuys, the ‘Gibson Girl’ radio transmitter, instruction-based art of the 1970s and Mary Flannagan’s notion of ‘critical play’. The gallery space became the site for a new installation work, transformed into a complex climbing frame made by a web of wooden girders. Caught amongst this, lay a sculptural rescue kite. A limited edition 'concrete kite' was produced and an accompanying publication (featuring text by Dr Katarzyna Zimna). |
