Description/Abstract:

The objective of the project is to explore common territories and boundaries of contemporary visual arts and geography through the crossing of the frontiers of diverse cultural contexts to establish a discussion on the differences and common territories in the cultural and physical landscape. In July 2016 Pruciak started a one year, round the world on motorbike journey. The journey having started in Brazil, South America, took him along 45 000 km, across 40 countries and 4 continents and in July 2017 he successfully completed a full circumnavigation of the planet on a motorbike.
This publication is the first analysis of the materials gathered and is a part of a wider publication strategy and it will contribute to a bigger book set. This publication uses the visual gatherings from an action camera which was mounted on Pruciak’s helmet at all times throughout the year. Action cameras are primarily used for video production as it had in this case, but for the purpose of this book, stills have been sourced from the footage. Action type camera produces visuals of a very specific aesthetic and has a unique modus operandi, as in this case, it is strapped to rider's helmet making the rider's viewing experience simultaneously a framing device. The aesthetics of these cameras has not received much attention so far academically. Action cameras have been used over the last few years primarily by athletes and holidays makers and so to use and discuss them as tools for creative geography projects is a new approach.
