'Poems All Sort Of Cut Up' - a digitally printed fabric book of cut-up poems.
The project related to a number of areas within my current practice – collage as a medium for printed textile design, automatic and cut-up poetry and performance, and collaborative and collective working.
The books explore the idea of a cut-up collaged poem as an artefact and artwork in its own right as well as a 'script' for performance such as the 'Gunfighter' project and also as an 'internal idea' for private and personal use. The poems were created using a number of methods from chance conversations in specific locations, number sequences or randomly chosen sections of text and words in the manner of Tzara and Burroughs/Gysin. These words were then used to create the poem allowing sub-conscious, collaborative and current influences into play. Collage was used to create a 'poem artwork' for each poem.
The process of cut-up poetry and collage is an important tool in my creative collaboration with Chris Rutter.
The books were shown in various artist book fairs including BABE Arnolfini Bristol, EINA Barcelona, DAD Dover, 'All Inked Up' UCA Canterbury and UCA project space, Folkestone. The poems were used in a performance with 'Bones and the Aft' and 'BirdRadio' 2016 and were performed again at the ‘Collagistas’ festival in Milan 2017 and 'All Inked Up' Folkestone 2017.
The poems have been pasted up in the streets of various cities such as Amsterdam, Berlin, Eindhoven, Milan and Thessaloniki.
One of the poems was published in Berlin based 'Prophit' magazine. The books are currently stocked by the 'Bookartbookshop' in Hoxton.
