This participatory project was a 10-week project that engaged young carers, aged 11-17, who often miss out on hobbies and time for themselves to attend the Wild About Arts photography project at South Hill Park, Berkshire. Led by Caroline Molloy in association with Toby de Silva the curator at South Hill Park, the project was designed to give participants the opportunity of stepping away from their caring responsibility and give them a break from their care giving duties and more time to engage with personal time and hobbies. It also offered the opportunity to engage with peer-to-peer support.
Over 10 weeks, working with a variety of photographic methods the participants extended their knowledge of photography and engagement with SHP. We encouraged participants to ‘play’ with photography and think creatively about their surroundings. In addition to learning key skills about photography, the participants learned about their local context and history.
The project culminated in a group exhibition in one of South Hill Park’s gallery spaces, which was on display over summer 2026. The estimation is that there was a footfall of around 24,000 during this period. Additionally it was designed into a publication for all participants and shared with the funders.
