Description/Abstract:

This paper aims to contribute to the growing field of research into the ethical codes of social media and other 'big tech' companies by analysing incidents where internationally regarded journalists were suspended or removed from web-based media platforms. It will argue that the current focus on tech companies' responsibilities to protect users has led them to place less emphasis on freedom of speech than they did previously.
