Description/Abstract: | domesticMATTERS, Contemporary Applied Arts exhibition for London Design Festival 2012, transformed the gallery into the imagined home of a collector of Modernist furniture and 21st Century craft. Curators, Brian Kennedy and Peter Ting, revisited the parallels between the basic tenets of modernist design and the concerns and approaches underpinning the work of some of our finest contemporary British craft makers. Important pieces of Modernist furniture from the Rocket Gallery collection acted as the backdrop for an installation that showcased an inspirational selection of functional works from CAA members. domesticMATTERS addresses the link between contemporary craft makers and some of the most important design and manufacturing companies supporting contemporary British design. It is an exhibition with a mission; the ultimate goal is to stimulate and develop interaction between uniquely skilled designer makers, potential producers and retailers. |
