The article describes what the translation exercise is and how it was developed. The translation exercise describes the main attributes and areas of prowess of a successfully operating stage one Fine Art student by cross-linking and mapping languages contained in the stage one undergraduate grading matrix, personal development planning and the learning outcomes of the stage one Fine Art BA Hons programme at UCA Canterbury. It was developed in response to interviewing Fine Art undergraduate students at UCA Canterbury during a two year research project titled ‘Curriculum development for receiving HE courses’, which was run by the National Arts Learning Network NALN at UCA Canterbury.
