Description/Abstract:

Mentoring exchange: 7 partnerships of textile practitioners in UK/Japan, January - September 2003. Touring Exhibition 2002-05: emerging practitioners from Japan and UK worked for 3 months with established practitioner counterparts in UK and Japan. Collaborative partnerships between UCCA and Universities of Chester and Huddersfield facilitated the UK-based Mentoring exchanges. Participants recorded their experiences in website journals and through interviews with Millar, published in the catalogue. Work created through the shared time formed a touring exhibition to venues of (inter)national significance including Sainsbury Centre for Visual Art, UEA and the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto. This project, supported by AHRB, led to the establishment of Anglo Japanese Research Centre at UCA, of which Millar is Director.
