Description/Abstract:

Christy Johnson's Feast Project divests photographs of First Communicants of their symbolic value and relocates them in a discursive site within a book.

In the case of the installation in the George Rodger Gallery, the subjects have been enlarged into iconic representations and they perform as both guardians of and witnesses to the artist's book.

By combining the archive of commemorative images with one of text shaped by interviews with invisible communicants, the artist invents a fictive location of experience and memory.
