Description/Abstract:

‘The Punishment of Luxury’ is a research output consisting of a curated exhibition with an exhibition catalogue and work within an edited collection, which together provide both a practical investigation and theorizing of contemporary Palestinian art. The work questions ‘origin myths’ and offers a critical reading of art’s ‘excess’ and ‘luxury’ as set against decades of military and political conflict. The research builds upon long standing collaborative research between Professors Bashir Makhoul and Gordon Hon into the production of contemporary Palestinian art.
