Description/Abstract:

Through the examination of practice, this paper examines how authorship of music is related to concepts such as trust, belonging, and self and/or group expression. It describes a number of topics that surround group music making and the facilitation of groups under the lens of leadership. The paper argues that stewardship is a significant aspect of curated music making that has received little attention although it is an important part of community music making. It draws upon experience from working in disparate settings; a high-security prison, a school for children with additional support needs including autism and cross-community work in Belfast.
