Marshall, Mike (2016) A Prism Splits Light. [Exhibition/show, Film]
Creators: | Marshall, Mike |
---|---|
Description/Abstract: | The curated exhibition, 'Horizon: Against Nature', a collateral event at the Kochi Biennale, India, exhibited a short film entitled 'A Prism Splits Light' as a video projection. The material for this video was reworked from the original in 2011 with a re-edited soundtrack emphasising ambient birdsong to contrast with the incessant noise of crows outside the exhibition venue. The film shows Vietnamese migrant workers pruning Cypriot olive trees amidst a visually romantic idyll. Its placement in Kerala parallels in some way the experiences of many of the local population who have to work in similarly alien environments, most notably, the Middle East. Other contributing artists include: Jeremy Deller, Superflex, Shimabuko and Anri Sala. |
