Description/Abstract:

A duo exhibition of photographic works by Karen Knorr and Shiho Kito (an ex-UCA alumni based in Tokyo, Japan). The exhibition is curated by Yuki Miyake (White Conduit Projects). It brings together work made by Knorr in Tokyo, Nara and Kyoto, Japan, called "Monogatari", referencing Japanese heritage and myths, and work by Shiho Kito called "Emonagatori" using image and text exploring Japan's relationship to India alongside "Pikari" large format nighttime street photographs taken in Ahmadabad, India.

Karen Knorr combined traditional byobou screens with photography installing it at Zuiuinan, a traditional Japanese mansion house belonging to the Nisheida Foundation.

The work was supported by grants from UCA, Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation, The Great Britain Saskawa Foundation and Nomura. It opened during Kyotographie, an international photography festival held every year in Kyoto.
