Description/Abstract:
This research will explore the challenges presented by a smartphone-centric world that result in a relentless bombardment of messages and notifications. Instead of a ubiquitous ‘black mirror’ device the One Pixel Interface will explore the concept of Enchanted Objects (Rose, D. 2014) to create contextually aware artefacts. The research aims to create a series of objects that use a single pixel as their interaction. That pixel may be visual, but it may also be audio, such as a bleep, or haptic in the form of a vibration.
