Description/Abstract:

light marks is an online research platform comprising fortnightly podcasts; detailed posts expanding and cross-referencing the themes discussed; and a rich, interactive forum. Making innovative use of Medium’s annotation system, each episode and post, rather than static artefact, becomes a space for discourse, drawing on invited and unsolicited responses from listeners and readers. Taking photography as its starting point, light marks looks to current events to reengage with broader or historical ideas and subjects. As technological shifts and contextual formations continue to affect understandings and uses of photography, light marks raises new (and resurrects old) questions around the nature of the medium, positing that, through it all, 'photography continually returns to an art form of light marks.’
