Description/Abstract: | Divorce Index is conceived through the analysis of data surrounding divorce statistics in the UK. The work investigates how data can be made visible through the creation of tangible emotional experience. Divorce Index is a 5 :24 minutes long film informed by open data that identifies ten coastal towns as the top sites for divorce in the UK. Working with further data sets to work out why. Divorce Index is a filmic response to these findings. A couple in dishevelled wedding clothes - myself and my husband - perform a curious gestural dance at Bottle Alley on Hastings’ promenade. Each movement is a choreographed gesture interpreting data around the pressures which may affect a marriage, including unemployment, health care, access to libraries, higher education, and gambling. |
