Description/Abstract: | The term ‘becoming’ is a philosopher’s word, bringing with it a Heraclitian pedigree. Oft used it outlines, in simple terms, the idea of ongoing change. Within the context of Greig Burgoyne and Rossella Emanuele drawing work the term is apt, for it refers to the playful open-endedness of their work. An indication whose origin spring from the implicit understanding that drawing is produced by a point that moves. White Noise therefore documents a moment in time when two artists met in an empty gallery space in London to ask and perform the question 'what is drawing?' White Noise includes an essay by the drawing theorist Joe Graham. Printed with fold out dust jacket, incorporating French folds and overprinting White Noise is designed in collaboration with CHK Design studio, London. Limited edition Artist' Book of 250 copies. |

Additional Information: | The bookwork WhiteNoise is an extension of the immersive, contingent and expansive collaborative residency WhiteNoise that took place at The Centre for Recent Drawing London, between London based artists Greig Burgoyne & Rosella Emanuele. Combining commissioned writing, a conceptually driven design process akin to the process led rule-based agency that the residency explored. Making one of the top five shows to see in London in June, this project continues to evolve now in the form of this bookwork. Beyond paper, beyond markmaking –colour, contingent coding’s whiteNoise is one of rhizomic orientations with radical multiple entry and exit points in its re-reappraisal of Contemporary drawing by two leading exponents of drawing and performance. WhiteNoise the bookwork sees systems of logic contested, new if absurd orientations and re- navigations of space offered up alongside duration, accumulation and repetition as pertains to body site relations that paradoxically extend a temporal space whist emphasising its limits WhiteNoise –the bookwork extends the performative dynamics space, its durational materiality and chance ordering and exploration. WhiteNoise is a bold and immersive new bookwork with fold out dust jacket, incorporating Japaneese folds and innovative overprinting. It is designed in collaboration with CHK Design studio London and printed in Holland by Wonderful Books -a specialist in delivering outstanding limited edition bespoke book-works. |
