Invited presentation at the first International Congress – Investigations in Art Research. O 1º CONGRESSO INTERNACIONAL - INVESTIGAÇÃO EM ARTE, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, Lisbon, Portugal.
This conference brought together Portuguese government science and cultural ministers and national university representatives from across Europe to discuss future models of arts research stimulated by the inception of PBR in Portuguese Universities following the European Bologna Treaty. The conference was themed around contemporary issues in practice based research methods and featured Claudia Gianetti, Hugo Ferrao, Miriam Tavares, Roy Ascott Antonio, and Sampaio da Novoa.
This research paper sought to bring together the organic units of investigation of research through art and introduced some of the challenges of undertaking and managing PhDs by practice. The paper introduced the evolutionary methods of Paul Klee as a schematic basis for visual research in the study of biological systems (The Nature of Nature).
The conference was organised by Centro de História da Arte e Investigação Artística (CHAIA) da Universidade de Évora and Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).
The paper abstract is online and a book publication forthcoming.
