- Details
The film installation 'Black Lace' will be presented from 2013 to 2015 as part of the British Crafts Council National Touring Exhibition entitled 'Real to Reel: Film as a Material in Making', designed by architects Carmody Groarke. The exhibition will bring together work by 15–20 artists in an environment of film installations, and a screening room. Films have been curated via four themes including material, performance, animation and concept, to question what film as material offers the maker, trends in narrative content, how film can work as a complement to working with other materials and the impact of experiential approaches.
'Real to Reel' was presented in an exhibition preview event from the 18-22 September 2013 in conjunction with London Design Week in designjunction, a major exhibition held at the Old Sorting Office, London with an estimated audience of 17000 visitors.
Exhibitions continue from 2014 in a number of gallery venues.
The projected video and sound installation, 'Black Lace' applies Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) to trace the topological features and the physical atomic structures of lace to allude to narratives of art, biotechnology and nature.
'Black Lace' was originally commissioned for the 'Lost in Lace' exhibition at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery from 29 October 2011 to 19 February 2012.
