Emma Brasó completed a curating fellowship at CCA in 2012, instigated by curating.info and CCA. The time in Glasgow allowed her to conduct studio visits while working on a proposal for this exhibition.
Through abstract paintings, cartoon-like drawings and cinematographically-produced videos, Henry Coombes and Carles Congost attempt to (mis)represent how the art scene replicates the hierarchies of the social world.
Inspired by The Times magazine's well-known series, Man of the Year reflects the artists' common use of satirical humour, with a trace of melancholy. Coombes presents work from a new series of paintings alongside the premiere of his film Two Discs and a Zed, which dramatises the historical nature/culture opposition. Congost, whose work is exhibited in Glasgow for the first time since 1996, presents his most recent film, Paradigm, alongside earlier projects specifically re-staged for CCA.
