This is a keynote speech given at the Arts Council England Diversity Seminar held on 14th May 2009. The event was chaired by Baroness Lola Young.

The keynote speech examined the terrain of gender relationships in the arts in the UK in the recent past and today, it explored the different patterns of status, support, and recognition between genders in relation to cultural practice.

The speech was given to an audience of Arts Council leaders and officers, who are responsible for strategy and funding in the arts at the most significant scale in the country.
