- Details
This book was prepared and published by The Swedenborg Society, London as part of their 'In Conversation' Series and to accompany a permanent art installation that was originally commissioned as part of the exhibition 'Fourteen Artists' Interventions' that was held at the Swedenborg Society, London, in February to April 2010, in celebration of its 200th anniversary. The book was published the following year in 2011.
Edward Chell is 'In Conversation' with writer Amy Halliday discussing the nature of the thinking and rationale behind the installation of Chell's handrail in the main stairwell of the society, its connection to Swedenborg, his ideas and other such as St John of the Cross whom Chell connects with Swedenborg in his thinking. Using Braille as a metaphor and a highly lacquered blood-like colour as another, the handrail engages with a range of narratives that also connect with one of Chell's other interests, 'edgelands'. Chell argues that this space, connecting the other of seemingly more important rooms, is also, albeit architecturally speaking, an edgeland.
The exhibition was held at Swedenborg House, London between 25th February and 5th March 2010.
